ISSUE: NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY
Mega-farming in rural communities is leading to unsafe urban neighborhoods throughout the midwest. Central Illinois is no exception.
HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?
Large corporate farmers engage in practices that cut costs for them but increase the likelihood that
methamphetamine producers will have access to the raw materials used in making "meth." The most notable practice is
leaving anhydrous ammonia tanks unattended along rural roads.
ACTION:
CIOP protested at an unattended meth tank in rural Logan County. The son-in-law of the corporate farmer said he didn't have to move the tanks because, "This is America. I can do what I want."
VICTORY! The tanks were removed the following morning!!!
